The Flow-Riders

There is nothing more difficult than the challenge to improve yourself. In 2009, eight Boys & Girls Club members, ranging in age from 13-16, committed themselves to healthier lifestyles, academic success, good character and citizenship through the Flow Riders Youth Cycling Team. Team members participate in weekly spin classes, road training, nutrition lessons, bike safety and academic support programs. As they train to ride 75 miles in the Boys & Girls Club's Cycle Challenge on June 26, 2010, they are challenging themselves to a brighter future.

Profiles

Jeremy Karner

School: West Salem High School
How being a part of the team has impacted you: I have learned safety rules,
hot to change a flat tire and how to wear a helmet the right way. I've also

life way better, being part of this team

with my teammates and the skills I've learned.

Vanesa Vasquez

How being a part of the team has impacted you: I feel proud about my
accomplishments that I've achieved so far on this team. Knowing all of the
challenges that I'll be facing later on in life, I truly feel this cycling
experience will prepare me for them. I have also learned to focus on education
and keep my grade up so I can continue participating.

Brenda Perez
Age: 15
School: McKay High School
How being a part of the team has impacted you: The Flow Riders have taught me
about nutrition and self esteem. When I started the cycling club I was out of
shape, but now four months later I have gone down 3 pants sizes. I have also
improved my grade to 3.0 GPA because of the time set aside for homework help
every Sunday.

Bryan Rosales

How being a part of the team has impacted you: The Flow Riders cycling team
is something that I can really be good at. With my physical limitations, it's

proud of the improvement in my physical fitness and that I've been able to
shorten my time in the mile run at school.
